In the present day, there are two common methods to perform reticulocyte count, manual and automated reticulocyte count. Manual reticulocyte count is basic common laboratory method for determination of the number of reticulocyte. Automated method makes use of automated hematology machine to directly perform reticulocyte count2. Presently, recent technological advances led the way to development of blood cell analyzer capable of performing a complete analysis of circulating reticulocytes and erythrocytes. Due to the fact that interpretation of such hematological parameters must base on the Original Articles Comparison of Automated and Manual Reticulocyte Count Determination

Reticulocyte counting by flow cytometry. A comparison with manual methods.
The reticulocyte count (RC) is a key diagnostic test in the evaluation, classification, and response to therapy of anemia. The RC, as determined by manual methods, has a frustrating inherent imprecision owing to its binomial counting statistics (i.e., low counts/low precision) and inaccuracy because of inter- and intraobserver variability as to what indeed is a reticulocyte. Fluorescent activat...
متن کاملIs manual reticulocyte count a reliable option for under resourced countries?
OBJECTIVES To establish the credibility of manual reticulocyte counts without compromising the quality of care, and to evaluate the degree of acceptability of manual reticulocyte counts in terms of accuracy and cost effectiveness in comparison with two automated haematology analyzers. METHODS Visual reticulocyte enumeration was evaluated for comparability, within-batch precision and costing w...

Introduction: Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a prevalent complication in the patients with cirrhosis and ascites, which leads to high intrahospital mortality. Diagnosis is made when ascetic fluid neutrophils is ≥250 cells/mm3. Manual counting of neutrophils is time-consuming, technically difficult, expensive and in many cases individual-dependent. In contrast, automated counting ...
متن کاملQuantification of red blood cell fragmentation by the automated hematology analyzer XE-2100 in patients with living donor liver transplantation.
The fragmented red cell (FRC) is a useful index for diagnosing and determining the severity of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) and other similar conditions, as it is found in peripheral blood in patients with these diseases. The FRC expression rate has conventionally been determined by manual methods using smear samples. However, it is difficult to at...
متن کاملDevelopment and Evaluation of a Novel In-Clinic Automated Hematology Analyzer, ProCyte Dx, for Canine Erythrocyte Indices, Leukogram, Platelet Counts and Reticulocyte Counts
A novel hematology analyzer for small animal medicine, ProCyte Dx, was developed from combination of the fluorescence laser flow cytometry and laminar flow impedance technologies, and its accuracy was evaluated by comparing with the conventional impedance-based hematology analyzer, pocH-100iV Diff, or microscopic manual cell counting methods with staining blood smears in the canine blood. Blood...
